Last winter we had the pleasure of spending time with Barry and media students from Camborne College in Barry’s net loft. Perched on the edge of Mullion harbour, this net loft has been used by Barry’s family for generations, itself housing a treasure trove of stories.
Over the course of 2 days Barry artfully crafted a withy pot, his first in 7 years (although you wouldn’t know this watching him fall easily into the rhythm needed to make a pot). Media students from Camborne College joined us, squeezed into corners of the net loft to film the process from various angles. Students were then supported to edit together a short film to capture the process. No small feat considering they’d recorded over 7 hours of footage from 3 angles!
To pull this together and help share some of Barry’s fascinating family story, we added in extracts of the oral history we conducted for the Withy Lore project earlier this year. Barry was delighted to see how the film has come together and we are now delighted to share it-
This film will form one of a series of films for the Withy Lore project, delivered in partnership with artist Anna Pope, which will culminate in an exhibition at the Royal Cornwall Museum from 5th March-June 2025.
