Those who have worked with Storylines over the years may have had the joy of meeting Tricia. Tricia was a huge supporter of Storylines and was involved in numerous projects with us over the past decade. It is with huge sadness that we share that Tricia has passed away, and we wanted to take some time to share some of our memories of this wonderful woman who we loved dearly.
Tricia had a passion for stories and words, both written and spoken. Indeed her emails and the way she spoke often felt like poems or extracts from a novel. An adventurer at heart, Tricia was well travelled and had a library of stories which were always a joy to hear. Often shared as we sat preparing resources together, Tricia’s stories would have us hooting with laughter, reflecting on our own lives and frequently surprised or touched. Each one a gift. Tricia was also an excellent listener. She relished hearing about people’s lives, never judging and always totally present. Her warm embraces were well known.
Age was not on Tricia’s radar and she would treat everyone with the same patience, interest and kindness. In many ways Tricia felt ageless. In her colourful wardrobe of charity shop finds, with her ever present zest for life, it felt like Tricia would be here forever.
When we did a project about women and the sea 3 years back, Tricia was top of our list. Her love for the sea- for walking by it, watching it and swimming in it, was deep and poetic. It’s been hard to watch this digital story back, but also lovely to hear her voice. Feeling lucky was a theme in Tricia’s life- a perspective we could all learn from- to be thankful for what we have. When Tricia danced- boy did she dance. When she had her grandchild, oh did she love her and relish time with her. Whatever Tricia was doing, she gave it her all.
There are many other things we have learnt from Tricia and she will be deeply missed. But we all feel so lucky to have known her and inspired by her.
