Remembering Merchant Schooners

Posted on: 1st November 2016 No Comments

We were delighted to be joined by so many people at our recent ‘Merchant Schooner Memories’ event which was held at the fabulous Devoran Village Hall. Kicking off a new community project, in partnership with the Rhoda Mary Project, we held the Memory Day in hope of finding people with stories and personal links to these iconic vessels. With no idea what to expect we were bowled over by the attendance, with some people travelling the length of Cornwall to join us. The room was a buzz with people sharing stories, passions and photographs, and it’s clear that this is an inspiring topic which we are looking forward to exploring further.

Memory Day at Devoran

Over the next few months we will be meeting up with some of the people who came along, allowing us to record their stories, gather photographs and create a series of digital stories about merchant schooners. These will become the start of an archive of stories, as well as give us some exciting material to take into schools and screen at future events.

Thank you to everyone who came along, and to the Cornwall Heritage Trust for funding the Memory Day.
