Field names and changing landscapes

Good news! We now have a large printed tithe map of Manaccan Parish up in the snack shack at Kestle Barton.
KB-map

Courtesy of the Cornwall Records Office, this map shows past field names from the area, providing a fascinating incite into how the land was once used and the old field boundaries that existed. As part of ‘Tallys an Tir‘ we invite local farming families to come into the snack shack (at Kestle Barton) and draw on their farms boundaries, changes to field names/hedges and anything else of interest. Whilst doing this you can enjoy a cup of tea or coffee, and  (if you’re lucky!) yummy locally made cake!

This map will be moved into the Gallery space for the ‘This Land’ event which will take place over the weekend of 31st August-1st September and showcase all the stories, photographs and objects the local group have collected over this project. It’s shaping up to be an exciting event, with some brilliant local stories and a few (rather large) surprises to be in Kestle Bartons beautiful gardens! Definitely one to put in the diary…
