Over 2010-2011 I was fortunate to photograph many different aspects of Cornish farming. Whilst spending the day scanning negatives for ‘Tallys an Tir’ I remembered these images of sheep shearing at Methleigh Farm in Porthleven that I never got around to digitizing or printing.

It was amazing how physical this job was (the shearing not the scanning!) with sheep after sheep pinned cleverly down to be sheared. After the sheep were free of their wooly coat they leapt from the platform, feeling a lot lighter and cooler than before I imagine! The sheep then stood around the entrance watching their fellow sheep receive the same treatment and the fleeces be rolled and put in large sacks. Everything seemed to happen at high speed and the job was done within a couple of days- very impressive!
