Our picnic may have been rained off, but spirits were high yesterday as we celebrated the end of the ‘Linking Lifetimes‘ project in Praze. The napkin bunting, made by the group of children and adults, hung proudly from the ceiling of the Praze Institute and the story canvas took pride of place in the centre of the room.
Thanks to everyone’s contributions, we had an amazing spread of cakes and treats, many which had been home-baked. With the addition of warm pasties from Philp’s down the road, we thought there was no way we would get through all the food. We were wrong! Never underestimate how much cake children can eat!
Party hats were made, games were played and each person wore a label saying, “Ask me about…” which allowed them to share something about themselves with both friends and strangers. When the children expressed they wanted to play some music, we hadn’t quite imagined a bongo and a snare drum! Well, why not, it was loud anyway!!
This event marked the end of this stage of the ‘Linking Lifetimes’ project, kindly funded by the Big Lottery Fund, but that doesn’t mean it’s over. The school is keen to keep welcoming their new adult friends into class, and the group now hopes to produce a community website and book of stories. Storylines is now hoping to secure further funding to help support this, as well as to extend the ‘Linking Lifetimes’ project to other communities.
It’s been a true privilege to work in this community over the past year, meet so many amazing people and hear their stories. Thank you so much to everyone for getting involved… to the adults, for being so enthusiastic, trying new things and being so wonderful with the children. To staff at Crowan School for being so welcoming and supporting the project. And finally to the children from Crenver Class for being such good Story Explorers.
Storylines will be at Praze Fair Show in a couple of weeks, so come and see what the project has been upto and share your thoughts on what we do next.
