ERF lorry outside the hall

As part of the Landmark Travels project we recently held another Memory Day at Trethurgy Village Hall near St.Austell. We were delighted to have the beautiful blue ERF lorry travel across from Wheal Martyn for the occasion, and it certainly acted as a good signpost to get people in on the day.

On display were a series of local archive photographs from Wheal Martyns’ China Clay History Society, as well as 2 large old maps of the area. These provided a great starting point for sharing stories, though judging by the level of noise throughout the afternoon, this wasn’t a challenge! We heard some amazing stories about the area, in particular Carn Grey, and are looking forward to following up on some of these by doing some individual recordings over the winter.

Exploring stories using maps at Trethurgy Memory Day

It was lovely to see people catching up with old friends, and we were bowled over by the turn-out which remained steadily busy all afternoon. We left filled with stories and ideas on what to do next. A big thank you to all those who came along!
