Over the past couple of months, Ali has been busy working with Year 6 children in 3 Devon Primary Schools to produce creative writing and artwork in response to Michael Morpugo’s book ‘An Elephant in the Garden.‘
To support this work we were lucky enough to meet the wonderful Monika, to hear her story and make this short film. As a girl in wartime Germany, Monika lived through the bombing of Dresden and in this film, she recalls some of her experiences of this time. It’s amazing how similar Monika’s story is to that of Elizabeth, the young girl in the book. This is something that the children had in mind whilst watching this, spotting the links between the 2 stories.
We will post photos of the work within schools, as well as images of the (amazing!) artwork produced soon…. watch this space!
These workshops were for ‘Upon My Word,’ part of ‘Extreme imagination,’ Exeter’s festival of writing for and by young people. This event has been developed in partnership with DAISI ( Devon Arts in Schools Initiative ), University of Exeter Graduate School of Education Department and Exeter Northcott Theatre.
